At BSO, we tend to find that creating a website requires a holistic approach. Over the next 3 days, we will be releasing a series of posts which detail important things you should consider before you jump in and have a website built.
1. Develop a Strategy
Achieving any targeted goal requires a solid and comprehensive strategy – websites are no different. A strategy will give you direction and help you keep results in perspective.
In order to develop a strategy, measurable outcomes you want to achieve from your website should be clearly identified. Not only will this assist the developer with being able to create the best possible website to meet your needs, but it will also allow you to accurately measure and track the results your website is delivering once it has been created.
In order to establish what should be incorporated in the website strategy, we encourage our clients to consider the following questions and we work with them using the responses to develop their strategy:
- Who do you want to visit the website?
- What do you want them to do when they arrive there?
- What is the main purpose of the website? (To sell products online, educate site visitors as to what products you have and where they can purchase them or a combination of both?)
- What calls to action will you use to engage visitors to interact with your website? (For example, will you request that they join a newsletter mailing list or membership group?)
